The origin of the Military Museum is linked to the now-disappeared Artillery Armoury of A Coruña, when in 1858 a collection of models of pieces and parts, carriages and machines was gathered, together with stored weapons from the Carlist Wars.

Inside, a rich and varied permanent exhibition gives an educational testimony of the concerns and experiences of the armies, through collections of weapons, uniforms, flags, paintings, sculptures and models that add up to a collection of more than 1,600 objects from the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries.
A Regional Military Museum since 1988, it is located on the site of the former Artillery Headquarters, which had been, since the 16th century, a convent, ammunition store, veterinary barracks, a prison, Civil Guard barracks and Artillery headquarters.
