The Sustainable Way

Urban environment

Since the end of the 9th century, pilgrims from all over the world have arrived in Santiago de Compostela following one of the routes of the Way of Saint James. We want to continue enjoying such a magical, unique experience. To do so, now more than ever, let's take care of this World Heritage wonder, promoting sustainable habits among pilgrims.

A Coruña will be your starting point to begin the English Way. For almost 7 kilometres, you will walk through the streets of the city. Enjoy its monuments and gardens and try not to leave waste on your way; use the litter bins and recycling containers at your disposal. Moreover, by walking or cycling, you will be helping to keep the city's air cleaner.

Natural environment

One of the charms of the English Way is the contrast between urban and rural. The landscapes that the English Way passes through, its forests, flora and fauna are a treasure that we must all preserve together. Take a bag with you to deposit your waste and try not to leave belongings behind such as clothes. The Camino will leave a mark on you, but try not to leave a trace of your own.

People

You will pass through small villages with inhabitants already accustomed to the hustle and bustle of pilgrims.

They will welcome you with kindness and will be happy to help. Be respectful of their heritage, customs and culture.
