A Coruña City Council

Locally sourced produce

A Coruña boasts first-rate locally sourced produce, thanks to the generosity of nature and the care and dedication of farmers who have passed on their knowledge from generation to generation. A total guarantee of freshness and a sustainable commitment to the environment.

In addition to the seafood that arrives to our port daily, A Coruña has magnificent farms and vegetable gardens in the vicinity. A few kilometres outside the city, the biosphere reserve Mariñas Coruñesas e Terras do Mandeo is committed to a sustainable food system (as well as being the first certified ecotourism destination in Galicia).

This territory brims with crops, featuring traditional varieties such as the Santiago black tomato, the Betanzos onion and cabbage, or the grape varieties Branco Lexítimo and Agudelo, recognised by the EU quality seal of protected geographical indication (PGI) Viño da Terra de Betanzos.

Food products include Piñeira chickens, Carral bread and empanadas, Sada sardines, Lorbé mussels (Designation of Origin Mexillón de Galicia), Betanzos omelette, cheeses, jams, honey, aromatic and medicinal plants, seaweed for culinary purposes...

In short, an extensive range of all kinds of top-quality, organic food products that enrich the Atlantic diet that A Coruña's restaurants offer.

Mariñas Coruñesas Seal of Quality

Mariñas Coruñesas e Terras do Mandeo was declared a biosphere reserve by UNESCO in 2013, standing out for its wealth of natural, environmental and agri-food resources. A magnificent local food source that graces the tables of our restaurants and has earned a seal of quality for its local products.
