Taste the Way

Travelling the Way of Saint James involves a great deal of physical effort, so it's essential to eat well. In Galicia, and more specifically in A Coruña, the local gastronomy is one of the main attractions. Seafood, empanada (savoury pie) and potato omelette are some of the classics in Galicia.

As A Coruña is a port city, you will find the best quality seafood. So much so, that the most common thing to do is to eat it cooked simply, so as not to mask its intense flavour of the sea. Among the protagonists of Galician cuisine is the octopus, traditionally prepared á feira, which can be easily found in the bars and restaurants of the city centre.

You will also find seafood products inside the empanadas. This dish always has a dough made from flour, with fillings that vary. One of the most typical fillings is tuna, but it is also common to see empanadas made with cod, octopus, pork, beef or vegetarian options.

Another classic is the Spanish tortilla prepared in the style of Betanzos, one of the stops on the English Way. With very lightly cooked egg, potatoes and a little oil, this dish is an unmissable classic of Galician gastronomy.

And, of course, you can visit the wine streets - Franja, Galera, Olmos, Estrella, Barrera and Torreiro - where you will find delicious daily specials, and of course, the famous tapas, so you can try a little bit of the best of our cuisine.

Moving on to drinks, in addition to the traditional Galician liquors and wines, beer is also a "star" of the show. In the city of A Coruña itself, you will find the Estrella Galicia brewery, which brews its beer using excellent-quality Coruñan water and has varieties made with ingredients from the Camino, such as Galician wheat from the English Way.
