Convent and Plaza de Santa Bárbara

The name of the square comes from the fact that there is said to have been a small chapel dedicated to Saint Barbara in this part of the city. Here we find the cloistered convent of the Madres Clarisas, originally founded in the 15th century and later expanded during the 17th and 18th centuries. Above the main doorway, there is an interesting Gothic relief from the 14th century depicting the Last Judgement.

This square has special charm thanks to its secluded atmosphere, the trees and the stone cross, or cruceiro in Galician.
